Despite, the Federation of African Universities (FAU) is a continental non-governmental and not for profit confederation set up by universities in Africa to promote cooperation among themselves and with the international academic community. As result of that FAU thrilled to announce that Green Somalia University (GSU) joined it and became a full new born member institution from the higher education sector in the Horn of Africa, Somalia. It was established in 2024 by visionary leaders committed to transforming higher education across the Somali regions, GSU aims to provide world-class education that addresses both local and global challenges. It serves as a beacon of learning and innovation for students from Somalia and beyond, fostering a culture of excellence, creativity, and leadership.

This new born Academic institution of GSU aims is to strengthen specifically in the sectors of Agriculture, Environment, Veterinary Medicine and Animal husbandry. Its a clear that the Green Somalia University is a response to the educational and professional needs of their society of Somalians, and as they have said their commitment to excellence and innovation has seen them to produce some of the best minds in the Somali-speaking regions of the Horn of Africa.

Founded with an initial membership of 54 public and private universities on May 25, 2022 in Adis Ababa, Ethiopia, the FAU’s membership has grown to over 100 educational institutions in Africa. In cooperation with UNESCO, UNASO, WHED project and AU is the leading continental confederation of higher education institutions and organizations from around the Africa.

FAU is an independent, bilingual (English and French), non-governmental, membership confederation. FAU membership is open to higher education institutions (HEIs) and organizations.
