The Islamic University in Uganda successfully hosted the Annual Legal Empowerment Summit 2026, organised by Noble Education Law & Research Hub under the theme \u201cEmpowering Communities Through Legal Awareness in Estate Planning, Will Drafting and Succession,\u201d <\/em>on 14th May 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Summit brought together judicial officers, legal practitioners, academics, students, and members of the public both physically and online to strengthen legal literacy and promote access to justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event commenced with legal aid services delivered by law lecturers from IUIU, lawyers from the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, State Attorneys from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and officials from the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. The initiative provided free legal guidance to communities on various legal matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the Summit, Ms. Nagadya Hamidah, the Chief Executive Officer of Noble Education Law & Research Hub and convener of the event, emphasized the importance of making legal knowledge accessible and understandable to ordinary citizens. She noted that empowering communities begins with equipping people with knowledge about their rights, responsibilities, and legal options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representing the university leadership, the vice rector in charge of Academic Affairs, Dr. Jamil Serwanga, reaffirmed IUIU\u2019s commitment to community engagement, academic excellence, and public service. He highlighted the university\u2019s continued efforts in strengthening access to justice through outreach programmes, legal education, and partnerships that connect academia with society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Summit\u2019s keynote address was delivered by Keynote Speaker, Hon. Justice Musa Ssekaana, Justice of the Court of Appeal of Uganda. He highlighted the importance of wills in promoting legal certainty, orderly succession, and protection of family rights and property. His address provided valuable judicial insight into the role of proper estate planning in reducing conflicts and strengthening justice administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Summit also featured panel discussions on succession law, Islamic inheritance principles, family protection, and criminal justice administration, providing participants with practical legal knowledge aimed at empowering communities and promoting informed decision-making.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
